In southern Tuscany, local dialect refers to Sangiovese as Morellino – possibly taking the name from the tart, dark morello cherry. Scansano, a little medieval village tucked into the wooded hills of Maremma, gives its name to the Morellino di Scansano DOCG that wraps around the village. Unlike the Maremma DOC, Morellino di Scansano can only be red, and it has to be a minimum of 85% Sangiovese...
