New St Emilion classification announced

• 1 min read
The new, 2006 classification of wines of St-Emilion has just been announced with Chx Pavie-Macquin and Troplong Mondot being promoted to the select group of Premier Grand Cru Classés. There had been rumours that Valandraud would feature in this new classification, updated every 10 years, but there is no sign of Jean-Luc Thunevin’s wine, nor of any other obvious garagiste wines.

Wines promoted or restored to Grand Cru Classé status are Chx Bellefont-Belcier, Destieux, Fleur Cardinale, Grand Corbin, Grand Corbin Despagne and Pavie’s stablemate Monbousquet. Demoted from this large category are Chx Bellevue, Cadet Bon, Faurie de Souchard, Guadet St-Julien, La Marzelle, La Tour du Pin Figeac (Giraud-Bélivier), La Tour du Pin Figeac (Moueix), Petit Faurie de Soutard, Tertre Daugay, Villemaurine and Yon Figeac.

The complete new classification appears below but not, alas, in the new edition of the Oxford Companion. There’s always something that comes in just too late…
