Off to Davos

I may be a little quiet over the next few days as I have been invited to the World Economic Forum currently taking place in Davos in the Swiss alps.

This is not, funnily enough, because Tony, Gordon, Bill Gates and the Queen of Jordan want to hear my views on the stalled Doha talks, but because I’ve been asked to host a couple of wine tastings as part of what I was going to call the entertainment programme but is apparently known as the education programme.

On Thursday night I’ll be presenting a selection of classic, mature clarets, 1975 Cheval back to 1952 Latour, on the basis that I suspect that typical Davos participants (CEOs, captains of industry, top economists and editors) see smart red bordeaux pretty routinely, but probably only more recent vintages. The great property of red bordeaux is its ability to age. Let’s hope that these bottles, sourced from and shipped out by Reid Wines, prove the point gracefully.

O
n Friday night I’ll present a range of more cutting edge wines from some of the more unlikely corners of the globe, including Grace from China again and two Indian wines about which the Indian press have been getting very excited.

I will of course report on this and other aspects of this extraordinary annual summit.
