Tavel – the fourth wine

Tavel - old vines by Cedric Prat

When a Purple Pager contacted us earlier this year, complaining at the paucity (and age) of our Tavel tasting notes, I felt chagrined enough to contact the Syndicat des Propriétaires Viticulteurs de Tavel and ask them if they would be kind enough to organise some samples from some of their members.

Tavel, as rosé expert Elizabeth Gabay MW writes in her book Rosé – understanding the pink wine revolution, 'despite its small production, has been the most famous rosé for two hundred years. Even with the growth in Provence rosé, Tavel still holds on to its pre-eminent reputation.'
