Vietnam gets a wine 'chateau'

• 1 min read

Ronald Fream sends this picture of a brand new winery, ageing cellars and tasting room under construction in Vietnam near the beach and golf course in the village of Mui Ne, a four-hour drive north of Ho Chi Minh city. It's part of the new Sea Links beach and golf resort, apparently, with the winery next to the fourth hole of this championship golf course overlooking the South China Sea.

The grapes are to be sourced from vineyards in the Vietnamese highlands, supplemented by juice from a California vineyard bought by the resort's owner. This is designed to be an architectural landmark and also to serve to introduce Vietnamese locals to wine. The hotel and golf course are already open. Winery operations are expected to begin early next year.
