Does research lead to more distinctive wines?

The Australian Wine Research Institute certainly believe that research leads to more distinctive wines. Con Simos, the AWRI’s group manager of industry development and support, is a winemaker by training but says of himself he is ‘not allowed to do research – they won’t let me into the labs’.
