The rapid growth of Lidl shows no sign of slowing down. According to the latest Kantar Worldpanel data, Lidl’s UK market share rose to 5.6% in the 12 months to 7 October (up from 5.2%). Two years ago, Lidl had a share of 4.7% and was eighth in the supermarket batting order, almost 1% behind Waitrose. It overtook Waitrose in the second half of 2017 and has widened the gap in the first six months of 2018.
