Appellation contrôlée wines may really become quality wines!

Julia Harding writes: It may come as a bit of a surprise to some that the Institut National des Appellations d’Origine (INAO, created 1935), which regulates the origin and integrity of French products as diverse as cream, honey, anchovies, lentils and wine, announced on its home page last week that it is to include quality in its remit.

As from 01 jan 07, INAO will become the Institut National de l'Origine et de la Qualité, though it appears the change is not quite drastic enough to warrant a change of name to INOQ. This development was outlined earlier this month...
