DOMAINE RAPET PÈRE ET FILS

Red
Very pale and autumnal and sweet. A bit too rich, thick ansd sweet. (JR)
Drink: 2014 – 2018
Price: £240 per case ib Jeroboams

DOMAINE FRANÇOIS RAQUILLET

Red
Bright light crimson. Sweet and a little sweaty on the nose. Quite hard work on the finsh – a bit austere. But authentic. (JR)
Drink: 2013 – 2016
Price: £126 per case ib Lea & Sandeman
Red
Mid crimson. Light and pretty fresh. But a severe finish that’s a bit light on fruit. Fast fade. (JR)
Drink: 2013 – 2015
Price: £153 per case ib Lea & Sandeman

DOMAINE LOUIS REMY

Red
Monopole. Heady and sweet – liqueur wine more like a tincture than a wine! Very sweet and thick. Flattering. But so thick you must be aware of the style. (JR)
Drink: 2013 – 2017
Price: £440 per case ib Justerini & Brooks
Red
Very rich and sweet. Dense but not appetising, then a bit brutal on the finish. (JR)
Drink: 2014 – 2018
Price: £895 per case, or £915 per case of 6 magnums ib Justerini & Brooks
Red
Sweet and aggressive. Hard work but no refreshment value. (JR)
Drink: 2013 – 2018
Price: £950 per case, or £970 per case of 6 magnums ib Justerini & Brooks
Red
Very lively and fresh and lovely. Such a contrast to the Latricières! Great stuff! (JR)
Drink: 2015 – 2023
Price: £1,100 per case, or £1,120 per case of 6 magnums ib Justerini & Brooks

DOMAINE JEAN RIJCKAERT

White
Sweet William pears on the nose. Crisp, firm and confident. Long crunchy-apple flavours and so much juice. Immensely rewarding and refreshing. VGV (TC)
Drink: 2011 – 2014
Price: £105 per case ib Clarion
White
A touch of acacia and sunshine dust, smells of summer. Rich and creamy, a rub of soft spice and a lemony citus edge. Round yet defined. (TC)
Drink: 2011 – 2015
Price: £120 per case ib Clarion
White
A touch of gold in the colour. Quite intense with a smoky orange-peel note. Pith, smoke and oak dust overlay a richness and glossy rounded weight, yet there is lift on the finish. Perhaps just a tiny touch more freshness would be good? (TC)
Drink: 2012 – 2015
Price: £168 per case ib Clarion

DOMAINE ARMELLE ET BERNARD RION
Trying hard. They have one or two great holdings, especially Vosne Chaumes right up by Tâche. Daughter Alice (ex Tasmania) is gradually refining the wines, I think. They taste as though yields should come down.

White
Simple but a bit hard. (JR)
Drink: 2011 – 2012
Red
Light cherry red. Pretty fruity stuff – quite light and with what tastes like a pretty high yield! (JR)
Drink: 2012 – 2013
Red
Quite dark crimson. Lively and a bit mossy. Fairly simple, easy. Not too demanding. (JR)
Drink: 2012 – 2016
Red
From four different village parcels. Lively ruby. Easy, sweet and soft. Round and easy. (JR)
Drink: 2012 – 2016
Red
Bright crimson. Quite firm and easy and well meaning but without real bottom. Dry finish. (JR)
Drink: 2012 – 2016
Red
Bright cherry red. Some crackling fruit. Bitter cherries. Light structure. Fresh. Lighter than most. Flattering. With some light tannins. Very pretty but quite light. (JR)
Drink: 2013 – 2019
Red
Very rich and exciting, but then their plot is just across a tiny road from La Tâche! Very good ingredients – lovely sap and body and flattering fruit, though one feels it could be just a little more ambitious. Great for early drinking. (JR)
Drink: 2013 – 2020
Red
Introspective, tighter than Vosne Premier Cru. A bit tough for the moment. It should emerge, this Murgers. Lots of texture but only middle weight. (JR)
Drink: 2015 – 2023
Red
Their only wine still in cask in late Oct 2010 and it will be bottled Dec. Light cherry red. Easy and fruity but with good structure underneath. Very frank and with no faults. All the ingredients are there, they just need slightly more ambition, or lower yields? Very frank and open. (JR)
Drink: 2016 – 2026

DOMAINE DANIEL RION ET FILS

Red
Pinkish crimson. Sweet but delicate red fruit. Lively and fresh and lightly structured, though the tannins are firm and dry on the spicy finish. (JH)
Drink: 2014 – 2017
Price: £234 per case dp inc VAT Montrachet
Red
Pale crimson. Intense and almost shocking cherry-liqueur nose. Quite rich and rounded but with a zesty cherry finish. Good depth of fruit, fine tannins, persistent, a little chewy but plenty of cherry fruit. Not very classic burgundy Pinot Noir flavours.(JH)
Drink: 2014 – 2020
Price: £366 per case dp inc VAT Montrachet
Red
Palish red-cherry colour. Spicy red fruit, inviting, expressive. Dense, fine grained, very firm but well balanced. (JH)
Drink: 2016 – 2021
Price: £366 per case dp inc VAT Montrachet
Red
Palish red-cherry colour. Gentle red-fruited nose. Finely structured, fine grained, changing to black fruit on the palate and richer on the palate than the Vosne. Streamlined, fresh. (JH)
Drink: 2016 – 2022
Price: £510 per case dp inc VAT Montrachet
Red
Again that shockingly intense cherry fruit on the nose. Almost too concentrated, as if in some way denatured, hence the minus.(Certainly not for lovers of delicate styles.) That same concentration carries through on the palate. Dry, fine and savoury on the finish. Impressive fruit almost covers the tannins though they are tight and fine. (JH)
Drink: 2016 – 2024
Price: £510 per case dp inc VAT Montrachet

DOMAINE MICHÈLE ET PATRICE RION

Red
Solid, slightly stolid nose. Sweet, polished, very juicy palate – perhaps just slightly heavy and certainly sweet. Still some fine tannins. Not for ultra purists perhaps. I'm aware of the oak. (JR)
Drink: 2015 – 2022
Price: £348 per case ib BBR
Red
Complex, appetising nose. Really racy and fresh. Great stuff. Very similar in build to the Cras but just with an extra spark of energy. Wait for this to unfurl. (JR)
Drink: 2016 – 2023
Price: £444 per case ib BBR
Red
Very neat and contained and rich without being sweet. A real success. Good precision. Very attractive dry finish with real refreshment. (JR)
Drink: 2016 – 2023
Price: £498 per case ib BBR

DOMAINE ROBERT-DENOGENT

White
Light and sweet and very well made but not the most concentrated. Clear and fresh though – nothing to object to. (JR)
Drink: 2012 – 2015
Price: £112 per case ib Bibendum
White
Rather odd coconut oaky note on the nose. Trying to charm. Very tight and tightly wound. Still quite youthful. (JR)
Drink: 2013 – 2017
Price: £155 per case ib Bibendum
White
Fresh and lively. This is really quite delicate and appetising. Not too much sweetness. GV (JR)
Drink: 2012 – 2017
Price: £190 per case ib Bibendum
White
Hint of oak on the nose. Savoury and with real tension. Chewy end. Needs time but has admirable freshness. (JR)
Drink: 2014 – 2018
Price: £225 per case ib Bibendum
