Burgundy 2023 – S–Z

Wednesday 5 February 2025 • 11 min read
Matt Chittick and Camille Thiriet of Maison M C Thiriet

The 13th and last of our alphabetically organised tasting articles collating reviews of all the young burgundy 2023s tasted by Matthew in the Côte d’Or and by Jancis, Julia and Tam in London. Matthew took the picture above of Matt Chittick and Camille Thiriet of Maison M C Thiriet when tasting with them in December. See also this guide to our coverage of this vintage in Burgundy.

These 152 tasting notes are grouped alphabetically by producer (sur)name and within those groups are ordered whites before reds, ascending from generic through village, premiers and grands crus.

Domaine Saumaize-Michelin (Vergisson)

White

Herby citrus brightness. Smells light and pure. Then nicely rounded on the palate. Relatively light but perfectly balanced, with the slightly chewy texture adding length. (JH)

Drink: 2025 – 2027
Price: £84 per case of 6 ib Montrachet Fine Wine Merchants
White

This smells as if there is some oak influence here – a touch of oatmeal clothes the definite citrus flavour. A piercing citrus freshness though the middle of this nicely rounded wine. (JH)

Drink: 2026 – 2029
Price: £98 per case of 6 ib Montrachet Fine Wine Merchants
White

Deeper than their St-Véran, seems both riper and spicier but the oak is subtle. Mouth-wateringly fresh as well as generously rounded on the palate. A fine balance of fruit and texture. Long, pure and harmonious already but will be better with at least another year in bottle. (JH)

Drink: 2026 – 2030
Price: £118 per case of 6 ib Montrachet Fine Wine Merchants
White

Pure, intense aroma of stony citrus. Intensely mineral and sour-fresh with a chalky impression on the palate, though the fruit is ripe and the texture rounded. A delicious and complete wine. (JH)

Drink: 2026 – 2031
Price: £128 per case of 6 ib Montrachet Fine Wine Merchants
White

More subtle in aroma than the Pentacrine. Pure, cedary citrus intensity. Extremely harmonious already with a lightly nutty character from the oak. Full in the mouth with a long, fresh finish. GV (JH)

Drink: 2025 – 2033
Price: £184 per case of 6 ib Montrachet Fine Wine Merchants
White

Intense and pure aroma of stony citrus and a light note of oak. Piercing freshness softened by the creamy texture. Elegant and long. GV (JH)

Drink: 2026 – 2033
Price: £188 per case of 6 ib Montrachet Fine Wine Merchants
