Burgundy 2016 – G

This carries the domaine name on the back label but the front label is heavily branded with Caroline Lestimé’s name. Screwcap. Under a limestone cliff.
Straightforward, generic white burgundy nose. Correct and bone dry on the end without being thrilling. This would be a useful house white for a conventional household with quite a bit of money. I admire the freshness and dryness. (JR)

Quite intense and rich on the nose and then nicely sculpted on the palate. There’s still a bit of oak there but it should age and settle down nicely. Good dry finish and a lovely satin texture. Quite long. (JR)

Good depth, intensity and tension. Very pleasing and impressive. Certainly as good as many a premier cru. GV? (JR)

Deeper crimson than most. Lots of interest on the nose. Masses of pleasure but not over the top. Bitter cherries and lots of energy. (JR)

Not much nose. But broad and charming fruit. Very winning on the palate with real drive and clean, ripe fruit. (JR)

Hint of upholstery webbing on the nose. Straightforward, slightly rigid fruit. Not a charmer. (JR)

Deep crimson for a 2016. Lots of delivery. Ripe fruit in a suitable corset of structure. Very juicy front palate – pure pleasure! (JR)

No frost; 52 hl/ha.
Scented and fluid. Lots of citrus on the end. Very long and intense. (JR)

Badly frosted and very low yield.
Green acidity and lots of texture – presumably thanks to very thick-skinned grapes. Finishes pretty suddenly. (JR)

Edgy, vegy nose with good precision of fruit on the palate. Gentle texture and the promise of further evolution. (JR)

Very fruity and almost rich! Flattering but with structure and freshness too. Just hits the spot. (JR)

Pure, fruity nose that is very expressive of Volnay even if not exactly concentrated. The exuberance of the fruit distracts from a very very slightly bitter note on the end. Well done! (JR)

Slightly bitter end. I’d rather have the Aloxe on today's showing. A little hollow. (JR)

Monopole. Light citrus and cedar aroma, herbal. Dry, very crisp, perhaps just too crisp for the fruit weight. (JH)

Not giving much away on the nose; just a touch of spice. Lean, crisp and refreshing with a tangy citrus finish. Quite good length but a bit austere in its citrus purity. Not sure it has the fruit depth for longer ageing. (JH)

Lemony fruit, plenty of freshness but could do with a little more depth on the mid palate. Even without that, it is balanced and correct, just not a standout. (JH)

On the nose at least, this has much more intensity than their Savigny 2016. Lovely lemon-cream aroma, tight and fresh but balanced by the rounded-out texture. Still a little light on the mid palate. (JH)

Mid crimson, a touch reductive now. Dark-red fruit, impressive depth for a Bourgogne. Chewy and honest. (JH)

Mid crimson. A little more fragrant and sweet-fruited than the Bourgogne. Dry, firm and plenty of flavour if less charm than I normally expect from a Savigny. (JH)

Mid crimson. Dark-red fruit and some hints of oak spice but not oak sweetness. Firm, young tannins giving a dry texture at the moment but it’s all in balance and just a little closed at the moment. (JH)

Lightish crimson. More scented than the straight Savigny, more delicate. Silky and tangy on the palate. Fresh, lively and good length, tannins are definite and shapely. (JH)

Lightish crimson. Scented with red fruits and a touch of oak spice. Drier and a little more tannic than the Peuillets – just needs a little longer to come round. Chewy finish and fresh. (JH)

Lightish cherry red. Charming red-fruit fragrance and behind it an attractive savoury spice. A little leaner on the palate than I expected but it is scented on the palate too and persistent. Should age into a more delicate style. (JH)

Racy and edgy. Very crunchy, green fruit. But just a tad simple. (JR)

Sweet apple purée on the nose. Real steel and refreshment even if not amazing depth. (JR)

Very fresh forest-floor notes. Some grainy tannins and some suggestion of very slightly stewed fruit, but certainly not overpriced. (JR)

Mid crimson. Piercing fruit. Smudgy impression but lots of easy, early pleasure with a hint of violet cachous. GV (JR)

Barrel sample. Lightish crimson. Tastes riper than the Santenay Maladière, more obviously fruity but still a little stemmy, in a good way. Dry finesse on the palate. Subtle rather than generous but harmonious in this style. Unexpected length. (JH)

Barrel sample. Light to mid crimson. Fragrant with red fruit and a light, non-intrusive herbal stemmy quality, an attractive leafiness. Then riper on the palate but still dark-fruited. Firm, dry with a chalky finish. Refined and GV. (JH)

Quite intense and charming on the nose with real freshness and drive (unlike some of his 2016s). Attractively stony finish. Great balance. GV (JR)

Barrel sample. Light to mid cherry red. This is a little richer and fuller than the Santenays but still pretty dry in texture, though here there is better balance than on the Beauregard so that the tannins seem less severe. (JH)

Solid and only very slightly stodgy. Lots of tannins. Made with attention for the long term. (JR)
