How to become a Master of Wine

Monday 31 March 2008 • 1 min read
MW
The Institute of Masters of Wine is holding its first Masterclass for aspiring MWs in London on 19 May 2008. Our very own Julia Harding MW is one of the tutors, although I can assure you that the ticket price of £100 a head has nothing to do with any fees paid to her or the other MWs who are giving up their time voluntarily to explain what’s entailed in becoming an MW (hard work, would be my first suggestion).

The sessions include:

  • a chance to test your palate with an MW-style tasting workshop tutored by Beverley Blanning MW, Julia Harding MW and John Hoskins MW
  • debate and discussion of current issues with Lynne Sherriff MW and Sarah Jane Evans MW
  • An opportunity to meet the team from the Institute, including Chairman, Joanna Locke MW, and Executive Director, Siobhan Turner as well as other members of the Institute informally both before the tasting and during lunch.

Schedule:
09.00 – arrival, informal chat
09.30 – introduction to the Institute
10.00 – 12.30 tasting Masterclass
12.30 – 13.30 light lunch and informal chat with MWs
13.30 – 15.00 debate and discussion with the MWs

Where: The Simpson Room, Waterstone’s, 203–206 Piccadilly, London, W1V 9LE
When: Monday 19 May 2008 (the day before the London Wine Trade Fair)
How much: Tickets are £100 per person (inc VAT) which includes all wines, a light lunch and the information pack. (A discounted rate of £80 is offered to subscribers to Harpers wine trade weekly.)
