The remoteness of the Great Southern region, four hours south of Perth in a land of panoramic wilderness, is both a blessing and a curse. Its better-known neighbour, Margaret River, attracts far more visitors and far more investment. But as a result, the wine has become expensive and, to a certain extent, predictable. Whereas Great Southern still has a pioneer spirit, with more to discover – at much better value.
