John Atkinson MW has written a scholarly article 'Terroir and the Côte de Nuits' in an attempt 'to try to crack the code of terroir to a certain extent' and it has just been published by the Journal of Wine Research. It has been reviewed by professors of oenology at Davis and Dijon. The Journal of Wine Research is a subscription-only publication but its publishers Taylor & Francis have generously allowed Purple pagers to access this link to the online publication, although only for the next month, until 20 May 2011.
