In praise of red Rhône today

On Friday I took part in one of the most heartening blind tastings for British Airways that I can remember. The 50 wines tasted blind had all been submitted in response to a tender for red Rhône wines – not for first class but for business class, so were by no means selling for sky-high prices. But almost all of them were of hearteningly good quality. I found myself handing out scores of 17 and above far more often than in most such tastings.
