Berry Bros & Rudd is one of the most remarkable British wine merchants. It is still family-owned (owned by two families in fact) but has long had tentacles far outside the UK. From its base in London's St James's, backed up by its own extensive bonded warehouse in Basingstoke, it seemed at one time to be diversifying somewhat frenetically – online, into airport shops, Ireland, a somewhat fraught and expensive move into Hong Kong, glassware, publishing, and I'm sure I have overlooked some more of its ventures. Its wholesale arm, FMV, has absorbed several major wine companies over the years...
