Deep ruby with bricky rim. Concentrated and balsamic rather than fruit-driven nose. A much lighter palate than the nose would have it. While it isn’t short of acidity the fruit is losing its lustre rather quickly. (WS)
Already seriously mature-looking ruby with bricky rim. Rich cherry-liqueur nose with sweet oak notes and hints of tobacco leaf and tar. Tangy, supple cherry fruit with a bit of oak and drying, soft, stalky tannins. Pleasant, but already much too developed for Brunello. (WS)
Maturing mid ruby with orange tinges. A little stalky and reductive on the nose with notes of oak and tobacco leaf. Maturing, dark fruit with ripe acidity and rustic tannins. Quite easy-going and already a little too mature in spite of the plentiful acidity on the finish. For the medium term. (WS)
Dark ruby with orange tinges. Deep, dramatic balsamic nose with a hint of oak. The palate is sheer precision without being short of concentration. Polished, tangy fruit with a layer of sandy tannins streamlining the whole. Generous but still a little embryonic. (WS)
Antinori’s holding in Montalcino.
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Rather stalky and reduced and with no obvious fruit right now on the nose. The palate is the opposite with rich, juicy cherry fruit and a eucalyptus note from the oak, followed by rich, grainy tannins. Needs an additional year to come round and show its true colours. (WS)
Lustrous ruby. Rich, brooding and a little stalky. Concentrated and full-on but lacking a little in precision. Definitely a bang-for-your-buck kind of wine. (WS)
Lustrous deep ruby with orange tinges. Firm, concentrated fruit nose with spice hints. Bags of tangy fruit and ripe, grainy tannins striking a very good balance. Long, chewy, deep fruit. This will develop nicely over the next few years. (WS)
Lustrous ruby. The nose is not entirely open yet, hinting at concentrated cherry fruit. Lots of sappy, tangy cherry fruit with mellow, creamy notes. The dry tannins let the wine down a bit; otherwise this is pretty much ready. (WS)
Lustrous mid to deep ruby. Brooding and still closed on the nose. Supple, focused cherry fruit with fine-ground tannins. Youthful and with proper grip on the finish. Needs more time. (WS)
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Savoury, saline mineral notes over raspberry and cherry fruit. Generous, suave cherry fruit that is still a little embryonic, matched by beautiful, fine, long, coating tannins. A monument in the making. (WS)
Property owned by Prosecco producer Bellussi.
Dark, maturing ruby with orange tinges. Dusty nose with brooding, rich fruit and hints of oak and cumin. Sappy, succulent cherry fruit with loads of chewy tannins. Not the most complex, but not without merit. (WS)
Property of Dievole in Chianti Classico. Certified organic by Bioagricert.
Deep ruby. Slightly reduced on the nose with stalky, concentrated fruit. Juicy cherry with gripping tannins, but overall a little nondescript. (WS)
Deep lustrous ruby. Cinnamon bark over youthful, rich cherry fruit. Lots of suave, succulent cherry fruit finely balanced by grainy tannins. Surprisingly ready but will hold. (WS)
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Very deep, brooding and still closed on the fruit but with lots of stony, minerally notes on the nose. Still embryonic and tightly wound, but with plenty of substance and energetic, gritty tannins. Lots of promise here. (WS)
Deep ruby. Brooding and concentrated but still rather numb on the nose. Supple, lush cherry fruit with underlying sandy tannins. Elegant and suave, even if that is not something everyone expects of a Brunello. (WS)
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Rather dusty on the nose with brooding cherry underneath. Not entirely pure. Lots of dark fruit on the palate and quite severe tannins on the finish. (WS)
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Brooding raspberry with the merest suggestion of cardamon pod. Minty raspberry that grows in stature and concentration on the palate. Long, dramatic, aromatic finish with fine-grained tannins. Fantastic balance and precision. (WS)
Lustrous, deep ruby. A nose bursting with minerally, salty notes but a little closed on the fruit. With aeration pure cherry reluctantly emerges from the glass. Intense yet poised tangy cherry fruit of great depth. Concentrated and transparent at the same time. Gorgeous gritty tannins building up on the finish. (WS)
Lustrous ruby. Stalky rather than fruity on the nose, but this might just be a tad reduced. Supple and with tangy acidity, but the fruit is already a little too ripe and developed for it to have a proper future. Seems to have been conceived for immediate consumption. (WS)
Mid ruby with orange tinges. Brooding, rich cherry fruit on the nose with an attractive pinch of spice from oak it seems. Lashings of succulent cherry fruit and crunchy tannins. Completely ready now, which I don’t entirely expect from a Brunello, but it is undeniably attractive. (WS)
Certified organic by Valoritalia.
At first a tiny bit oxidised with a hint of apple peel, but its adds complexity rather than distracts. Great purity of fruit underneath with fresh mint and hints of cinnamon bark. Gorgeous raspberry fruit and lightness of touch on the palate and super-animating gritty tannins. Very distinctive and original. (WS)
Very dark ruby with orange tinges. Firm cherry nose with minerally hints. Youthful, tangy cherry fruit on the palate charged with stalky tannins. Loads of acidity on the finish keeping things fresh. Still unsettled for the moment, and needs age for the whole to come together. It will be worth the wait. (WS)
Mid ruby with orange tinges. Open-knit, full nose with dark fruit and hints of cinnamon. Supple, ripe fruit with chewy tannins. Perfectly acceptable, but lacks in complexity as well as ambition. (WS)
Dark ruby with bricky rim. A layer of spicy oak over very ripe, but still lively, cherry fruit. Lots of lush sour-cherry fruit and bags of sandy tannins. Just a tiny apple-peel note on the finish, but this could perhaps have been a cask sample? (WS)
Very dark ruby with bright orange tinges. Rich, brooding cherry with a suggestion of eucalyptus. Supple fruit that at the same time is still rather curled up. Grainy, long tannins and lots of juice on the finish. (WS)
Lustrous ruby. A little spicy and still quite tight on the nose. Compact cherry fruit and with plenty of depth on the palate. Proper concentration with lots of supple acidity and a core of gravelly tannins. Needs more time but this shows lots of promise. Beautiful label. (WS)
Maturing mid ruby with bricky rim. Generous fruit nose with hints of tobacco and a suggestion of dried fruit that goes away with aeration. Sappy and ripe on the palate and loaded with grainy tannins. The surprise is kept for the finish where it becomes increasingly pure and focused. A little enigmatic and although it seems ready, it is not. (WS)
Lustrous ruby with bricky rim. Deep, concentrated fruit nose with savoury oak and hints of liquorice. Lots of savoury-sweet tangy cherry fruit on the palate with just the right dose of chewy tannins. Quite a big finish and can be approached now. (WS)
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Deep, layered dark-cherry fruit nose with spicy (oak?) hints. Full-on sour-cherry palate with fine yet persistent tannins. Lots of juice and fruit on the finish. Seems ready but ideally should get a couple more years in bottle. (WS)
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Quite ripe and accessible cherry fruit on the nose and with a hint of cigar box. Lots of juicy cherry fruit on the palate. Lively, even a little slim on the finish, with contrasting drying tannins. (WS)
Mid ruby with bricky tinges. A little stalky and already a little developed on the nose and with a hint of cigar box. Supple, easy-going, tangy fruit pinned down by powdery tannins. Pleasant if a little bit simple for a Brunello. For immediate consumption. (WS)
Deep, maturing ruby with orange tinges. A tiny bit stalky and with ripe cherry fruit on the nose with a hint of dried fruit. With aeration a hint of oak. Sappy, tangy, abundant cherry fruit on the palate with fine-ground tannins. Smooth and a real people-pleaser. (WS)
Lustrous deep ruby with narrow bricky rim. Iron and rich, dark and sour cherry on the nose and with stalky hints. Lots of ripe fruit and grainy, slightly drying tannins. Practically void of characteristics that point to Brunello. (WS)
Certified organic by Valoritalia.
Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Very youthful and lifted on the nose with bags of minerals. Elegant as well as generous and superbly balanced on the palate. Pure, long and complex and still embryonic. (WS)
Certified organic by ICEA.
Maturing ruby with bricky rim. Rich, ripe cherry with a dose of well-judged oak on the nose. Tangy, ripe fruit with grainy tannins. The palate is a little more youthful than the nose and it has good medium-term perspectives, but overall it could have been a little less ripe and more tight. (WS)
Lustrous maturing ruby with narrow bricky rim. Brooding rich nose with a peppery tingle. A palate stuffed with rich, tangy fruit and lots of gravelly tannins. Firm structure balanced by plenty of fruit. A little powerhouse. (WS)
Certified organic by Suolo e Salute.
Deep to dark ruby. Deep, brooding and backward on the nose but with real precision. Lots of juicy red fruit and stunning, fine-grained tannins. Still a little embryonic but already hard to resist. Sheer class. (WS)
Mid to deep maturing ruby with bricky rim. A tiny bit grubby on the nose. Quite sweet and rather developed palate of cherry and a suggestion of apple peel and dried fruit. Generous and juicy and with firm tannins building up on the finish. Seems to be developing fast. (WS)
Lustrous ruby. Concentrated fruit with minerally notes and grows increasingly complex in the glass. Full yet elegant on the palate with finely chiselled tannins. Breathtaking balance. Simply gorgeous, but far from ready. Montalcino nobility. (WS)
Certified organic by CODEX.
Deep, shiny ruby. Spicy oak perfectly integrated with concentrated, perfumed cherry fruit on the nose. Palate of supple, tangy and lush cherry fruit with a gorgeous bite of tannins. Great balance and energy. (WS)
Mid ruby with orange tinges. Balsamic deep cherry fruit on the nose with hints of exotic spice. Supple fruit with bitter-sweet, laurel-tasting tannins that become a little dry on the finish. Already a little developed and ready now. (WS)
Lustrous ruby with orange tinges. Compact and still a little closed on the nose with the faintest hint of oak. With aeration stony notes emerge. Same embryonic impression on the palate with a thick layer of fantastic, gravelly tannins. Finely balanced and right now with a gripping structure – but this needs more time. It will be worth the wait. (WS)
Lustrous, deep ruby. Lifted nose of complex oak and raspberry and sour cherry. With aeration the whole integrates. Deep raspberry fruit with subtle acidity woven in. Plush raspberry-fruit finish with long-lasting, gripping, super-tactile tannins. Needs at least a couple of years in bottle, but this has great potential. Lush and juicy and tannic in equal measure. (WS)
Dark ruby with orange tinges. Rich and a little brooding and with hints of dried fruit. Dense, ripe, tangy fruit palate that is a little lacklustre. Result of a very (too) late harvest? Ready now. (WS)
Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. A little stalky, possibly caused by reduction, but that blows off with aeration. Concentrated cherry fruit with quite a lot of stubborn tannins. (WS)
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Firm, deep nose of dark fruit and cherry with minerally, dark-earth hints. Lots of succulent cherry fruit with the perfect dose of chewy tannins. Great balance and length. (WS)
Lustrous ruby with bricky rim. Dramatic, deep, concentrated nose with an exotic spice note from oak, but perfectly integrated. Succulent, deep, polished marasca cherry on the palate with deep, chalky tannins. Immense length and concentration, but balanced at the same time. Still needs to lose it intense fruit sweetness, but I can imagine some would tuck in right now and enjoy its voluptuousness. (WS)
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Rich cherry that is still a little dusty from the oak. Bags of tangy cherry fruit and chewy tannins that really add pizzazz to the finish. (WS)
Deep ruby. Firm, spicy concentrated fruit nose. Full-on and fruit-driven on the palate but with great balance. Juicy acidity and fine, gravelly tannins follow the cherry fruit on the finish. Ready now. (WS)
Dark ruby with orange tinges. A little earthy and not very expressive right now. Supple, polished, deep fruit that is already quite accessible, followed by firm tannins. Should be ready to enjoy from next year on. Solid. (WS)
A Folonari family property.
Already developing ruby with bricky rim. A concentrated cherry nose that is a little too mature for a wine that claims to have considerable ageing capacity. Rich, round cherry fruit with zippy acidity and ripe tannins. Super-accessible and concentrated, but lacking real Brunello pedigree. (WS)
Maturing deep ruby with orange tinges. Slumbering nose with exotic spice top notes. Still embryonic yet polished with fine-ground, chewy tannins that need more time. Long, finely aromatic cherry and raspberry finish. So sleek and elegant and at the same time not short of concentration. Carries its 15% effortlessly. Real substance yet not heavy. (WS)
Mid to deep ruby with orange tinges. Attractive, firm cherry-fruit nose with balsamic, minty oak notes. Lots of supple, tangy cherry with gripping yet polished tannins. A seductive whole and can be approached now but will hold. (WS)
Lustrous deep ruby with orange tinges. Tight, youthful cherry and raspberry nose the merest suggestion of oak. Supple, succulent cherry with fine, coating tannins following the fruit. Elegant, long and polished. (WS)
Dark maturing ruby. Brooding and a little rich on the nose and already showing some development. Generous and lush on the palate and could already be approached if it wasn’t for the gritty, tactile tannins that demand more time. (WS)
Mid to deep ruby with orange tinges. Very youthful and lifted with lots of cherry fruit on the nose. Polished, succulent cherry fruit with a thick layer of fine, chewy tannins underneath. Seems ready but needs to lose its puppy fat. (WS)
Deep ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Stalky/reductive right now on the nose and with supple and easy-going fruit followed by quite drying tannins that dominate on the finish. Perhaps just needs more time? (WS)
Dark, maturing ruby with orange tinges. Very concentrated and brooding. Rich, mouth-filling fruit with supple acidity and tons of sandy tannins. What it lacks in finesse and complexity it makes up with in sheer concentration. (WS)
Property of Dievole. Certified organic by ICEA.
Mid to deep ruby with bricky rim. Rich sour cherry with spicy oak. Supple cherry-fruit palate with sandy tannins. Peters out a little on the finish. (WS)

Impenetrable dark ruby. Concentrated and a little stalky on the nose, but more composed and balanced on the palate, even if the fruit noticeably loses steam on the finish. (WS)
Maturing, mid ruby with orange tinges. Lifted, aromatic amarena-cherry nose. Lots of sweet amarena cherry on the palate with a good dose of acidity that completely dissolves in the fruit on the finish. The fruit is a tiny bit artificial while the firm tannins are rather rustic. (WS)
Certified organic by Suolo & Salute.
Deep, dark ruby with narrow bricky rim. Very tight and closed on the nose and with less oak than in the past. Compact and tightly wound, tangy cherry fruit on the palate. Firm but fine tannins just turning up in the finish. Needs much more bottle age – and deserves it. (WS)
Lustrous mid ruby. Stunning nose chock-full of minerals with raspberry and a hint of eucalyptus. Elegant and succulent with pure raspberry and super-fine but firm tannins lining the fruit. Great precision. Transparent. (WS)
Deep to dark ruby. Dusty oak notes mingle with rich cherry fruit on the nose. Plenty of supple, concentrated sour-cherry fruit, with drying tannins from the oak that will settle with an additional year in bottle. Overall, this is rather easy-going, while I’d expect more than that. (WS)
Mature-looking ruby with orange tinges. Slightly reduced nose with hints of tobacco leaf. Lush, ripe fruit with gritty tannins and ready now. Quite ripe and lacking in real complexity. (WS)
Certified organic by ICEA.
Just mid ruby. Minerally cherry fruit with a balsamic note of eucalyptus. Gorgeous, succulent, tangy cherry fruit mellowed by a little oak and with a layer of rich, chewy tannins. Super-seductive, with loads of character. (WS)
Dark, maturing ruby with orange tinges. Rich and concentrated and even a little overripe on the nose. Sappy and lush, but not showing a lot of definition on the palate. Slightly drying tannins on the finish might indicate a forced delayed picking. (WS)
Maturing mid ruby with orange tinges. A tiny bit stalky and balsamic on the nose with a medicinal hint – like the medicinal wine administered to the elderly as an iron supplement. Mellow fruit with a bit of tangy acidity and soft, bitter tannins. Readily accessible and a little too innocent for the lofty name on its label. (WS)
Maturing dark ruby with bricky rim. Already a little developed on the nose with ripe cherry fruit and with suggestions of tobacco leaf, but nicely contrasted with minerally, salty hints. Youthful vigour on the palate with sappy cherry and gripping tannins. Can be approached now but will improve with an additional year in bottle. (WS)
Impenetrable dark ruby. A curious nose of rich, dark fruit with dried fruit and top notes of cassis, cinnamon and apple peel. Lots of fruit, tannins and acidity on the palate, but still it cannot escape the impression that this is a little overripe and pushed for concentration. (WS)

Mid ruby with orange tinges. Spicy notes over brooding fruit. Sweetly concentrated cherry and strawberry palate with grainy tannins on the finish. Pleasant and ready now. (WS)
Mid ruby with orange tinges. A tiny bit reduced and stalky. Rather simple red-fruit palate that doesn’t immediately reflect Brunello, but might just need more time. (WS)

Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Hints of oak and roasted coffee bean with cool red fruit underneath. Lush cherry-fruit palate with firm tannins on the finish. (WS)
Bottled on 13 June 2023.
Just mid lustrous ruby with some orange tinges. Subdued, concentrated nose that needs time to open up. Balsamic cherry with a peppery note. Hints of herb liqueur, and with aeration enveloping. The palate is much less open and forward. Compact and tangy fruit with fine but firm tannins, on the finish this opens up. Great purity of fruit. Lots of fresh acidity and with fantastic structuring tannins, but they will need more time. Quite a beautiful wine. (WS)
Mid to deep maturing ruby with orange tinges. Stalky and slightly dusty cherry fruit on the nose. Could be from oak? Tangy, lively cherry with creamy notes from oak followed by tannins that are a little dry on the finish. An additional year in bottle might do the trick. (WS)

Mid to deep ruby with orange tinges. Stalky, sweet and a little reduced on the nose. Brooding, sweet cherry with a hint of cocoa powder. Rather sweet, candied-cherry palate made even more mellow by oak while ending on dried-fruit notes. This needs a big rethink. (WS)
Maturing ruby with bricky rim. Quite developed, mature and brooding cherry-fruit nose with hints of tobacco.
