Pierre Lacour was an artist working in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, specialising in scenes of his native Bordeaux. Here we see the Quai des Chartrons, the quayside where the merchants of Bordeaux clustered then, overseeing their busy trade, dominated by the produce of the vineyards around the city.
