为何桃红不红? (What's wrong with rosé?)

五月尾,我和外子到香港参加了每年一度的国际葡萄酒商展会(Vinexpo HK)。外子是个葡萄酒迷,趁假期决定报读英国葡萄酒和烈酒教育信托基金会(WSET)的专业文凭。为了应付鉴定考试,他把这次的展览会变成模拟考场,锁定目标,品尝全场稀有葡萄酒,尤其是桃红葡萄酒(Rosé Wines)。因为在新加坡,品质好的桃红少之又少,少人问津,经销商也不加理会。

在会展,我们像狩猎者般,寻找桃红葡萄酒的踪迹。找了老半天,发觉参展酒商尽把红,白葡萄酒并列前排,桃红被挤到后方,要不是我们提起,商人似乎忘了介绍这个被遗忘的葡萄酒。此情此景,似曾相识。在新加坡,唯一可看到整排桃红葡萄酒的陈列就是打油站里的小超市,价格联谊,品质可想而知。当我问及朋友或同事们对桃红葡萄酒的印象时,通常只有两种答案:“没什么印象”或者“啊,不喜欢!”。

桃红葡萄酒,清爽可口,有特出的果实酸,层次感比纯白葡萄酒高,同时少了传统红酒的涩味,是夏天的好伙伴。既然口感好,又适合这里的天气,为何桃红“不红”?其实,原因并不复杂:

1)                在华人居多的亚洲地区,消费者对葡萄酒的认识有限,只知道红,白两种葡萄酒。这中国,许多人把葡萄酒统称为红酒。

2)                红葡萄酒属健康饮品,这也是消费者购买的原因。所以,颜色非常重要。

3)                经销商对葡萄酒教育工作一向不甚积极,桃红葡萄酒在无人推广的情形下被忽视,消费者在一知半解的情况下,以为桃红是一种被淡化的红酒,下意识对它质疑。少人买,更少人卖。

4)                男士一直觉得桃红葡萄酒是一种女性的饮品。女士们大致喜欢桃红酒,但是她们只对粉红香槟有兴趣,其它的桃红葡萄酒是敬而远之。

在会展意外获知法国普罗旺斯(Provence)当局举办了一个桃红葡萄酒品尝会。原来桃红占了这个地区的总葡萄酒产量的88%,其中大部分还是消耗在法国。品尝桃红就像是一种“平民”的生活艺术,适宜的价格,玫瑰般的享受。这也许可以解释为什么酿酒商不那么积极的开矿海外市场。不过,随着欧盟经济前景疲弱,或者这些葡萄酒商将会改变初衷。

品酒会推出了3款桃红葡萄酒,都是来自普罗旺斯特制酿造区(AOC Côte de Provence),它们的颜色是浅浅的粉红,芳香,口感细腻。其中一位酒庄主人在简短的介绍Whispering Angel Rosé2008时,描述了他在游艇上细品桃红时的快乐时光。如果我们能把这幅“海上之品”的画面映入消费者的眼帘,桃红在亚洲肯定能发扬光大,桃红更红!
